My connection to horses…..

Ceffylau Dŵr (Water horses)

Much of my happiest childhood memories are connected to horses and other animals. These early experiences have continued to influence my creative work.

In recent years, I found renewed inspiration following a visit to a Napoleonic re-enactment at Fort Belan, built in 1775. Located on the remote and tranquil Dinlle Peninsula, the fort is surrounded by expansive sand dunes, beaches, and lies within walking distance of the Foryd Nature Reserve. As I explored the site, I imagined how, in the 18th century, the landscape would have been alive with various breeds of horses. This vision inspired me to capture scenes of horses galloping and grazing along the wetlands and shoreline.

My first series of paintings, Belan’s Horses, was created in monochrome to evoke the atmosphere of memory and dreamlike reflection. This collection has been well received, with many works sold.

For my third series, I introduced a softer palette inspired by the natural tones of shells found along the beach—muted browns and greys that reflect the coastal environment.

I am delighted that my collection, Ceffylau Dŵr (Water Horses), has been selected for exhibition at Plas Glyn y Weddw as part of the Summer Exhibition, running from 22 July to 4 October 2026.
